Talking about your work, what’s the “nucleus”?
The center of my work has been memory. On the one hand, personal memory portrayed as something very intimate which generates a series of repeated actions; on the other hand, a sort of collective memory which springs from the imaginaries that compose identity (built from symbolic elements with a common context). There is also a questioning of the public and private spaces and the thin line that divides them.
Anyway it is always very difficult to separate the different stages of the work. I would say the "nucleus" of what I do is myself, what I see, what affects me, whatever detonates in me questions or images. After that, it is all about making the work possible.

Hablando sobre tu trabajo cuál es el núcleo?
El núcleo de mi trabajo ha sido la memoria, en principio mi memoria personal proyectada en un trabajo "intimo" que genera una serie de actos repetidos; y luego una especie de memoria colectiva que parte de los imaginarios que constituyen la identidad, construída con elementos simbólicos comunes a un contexto; hay también una pregunta lo público y lo privado, los espacios y la fragil linea que los delimita. De todas formas es siempre dificil encerrar los diferentes momentos del trabajo, el nucleo básico sería yo misma, lo que veo, lo que me afecta, lo que e genera a partir de algunas experiencias que me configuran o sugieren imágenes y preguntas, entonces desde allí surge un trabajo que se dirige más hacia la gestión.

what do you do most constantly?
Right now what I'm mostly dedicated to is managing an open art space for the exchange and promotion of contemporary art, in Medellín, where we do exhibitions and artistic residencies among other activities. It is called Taller 7 and we have been working for the last 6 years.

¿Qué hacés con más constancia?
Lo que hago más constantemente ahora, es "gestionar" un espacio abierto a la producción, intercambio y difusión de arte contemporáneo por medio exposiciones y residencias entre otras actividades, en un proyecto colectivo llamado Taller 7 que ya lleva 6 años

When you are drawing , what are u thinking?
Before I begin to draw I try to understand many things but above all I try to understand why I'm going to draw something. I try to make it have some sense. Sometimes I can't even start at all because I find no sense in what I'm about to do. I know it's absurd but I can't help it. When I overcome my initial worries I only think about action, as if I was repeating a mantra only defining the direction of my hand from second to second.

¿Cuando estás dibujando en qué piensas?
Antes de comenzar a dibujar pienso en muchas cosas, sobre todo intento entender por que voy a dibujar, intento que tenga algún sentido, tanto que muchas veces dejo de hacer por que no lo encuentro, lo cual es bastante absurdo pero no puedo evitar; cuando logro comenzar a hacer ya sólo pienso en la acción, como si estuviera repitiendo un mantra y sólo definiendo hacia donde va la mano en el siguiente segundo.

This action is a sort of ritual. I performed it once a year during three years in a row. This bath is a sort of cleansing where the blood as a vital fluid purifies the body. It is a way of making visible what goes on inside the body, bathing with blood, bathing in blood...

Vì las fotos de tu trabajo. Un a mujer en una silla con "Rojo", por favor hablanos de ese trabajo
Esta acción es una especie de rito, lo hice durante tres años, una vez cada año. El baño es una especie de limpieza donde la sangre como fluido vital es la que "purifica" y lava el cuerpo, de alguna forma era exteriorizar y hacer evidente lo que pasa al interior del cuerpo, bañarse con sangre, bañarse en sangre...

which country do u want to travel?
Many, but right now i'd like to visit Mexico.

¿A qué país te gustaría ir?
Bastantes, pero ahora quisiera mucho ir a Méjico.

How does the urban context influence your art work?
Lately I think my drawings have a lot to do with my experiences in the city;
I like to draw as fragments, my street experiences on a friday night.
Living in Bogota is also a source of inspiration due to the many
contradicitons that coexist in the city,
If I'd live somewhere else, it would have been different.

¿Cuál es la influencia del entorno urbano en tú obra?
Últimante creo que mis dibujos tienen mucho que ver con mis
experiencias en la ciudad, sobre todo en las calles, por ejemplo un
viernes en la noche, me gusta recrear fragmentado en dibujos eso que
vivo y veo en esas situaciones; aparte, vivir en una ciudad como
Bogotá, en la que existen tantas contradicciones juntas, seguro
influye en lo que pinto, sería diferente si estuviera en otro lugar.

Is the color in your artwork inspired by the city?
The choosing of colors on my drawings has more to do with an intuitive process,
compositions derives from impulses, obviuosly not as an isolated process,
but as a result of my thoughts and emotions, but I don't think it
has a direct reference to the city.
I think the action to choose from one color to another is part of a
process that has other ways of working through without literal causes;
I don't mean that it has no origin but sometimes the changing of
colours comes simply from the rythm of the music I'm listening at that
moment.

¿El color en tú obra está inspirado por la ciudad?
La escogencia del color en mis dibujos tiene que ver más con un
proceso instintivo, las composiciones se derivan del impulso,
obviamente no es un proceso aislado, tiene que ver con muchas cosas
que estoy pensando y viviendo, pero no creo que tenga que ver con el
concepto de ciudad en específico.
Creo que la acción de escoger tal color u otro para llenar un espacio
hace parte de un proceso que tiene otro mecanismo de funcionamiento
sin causas literales, esto no quiere decir que no tenga un origen de procedencia,
pero por ejemplo aveces simplemente voy cambiando los colores dependiendo de los cambios rítmicos de la canción que esté escuchando.... todo esto para terminar diciendo que los colores que escojo tienen un significado encriptado y ya.

Is there an specific narrative within your artwork?
It is hard for me to maintain and unvariable and decided theme on the drawings.
In the last pieces and sometimes I'm working on my dreams, or when my mind is confused or sometime in the middle of a party.

¿Hay alguna narrativa específica en tú obra?
Para mi es muy díficil mantener un tema invariable y decidido en los dibujos,
ultimamente y aveces pinto sobre mis sueños, o cuando mi cabeza está bien enredada o en medio de una fiesta.

I don't know how they differ but I do account a colonization in the artistic field, and I think it's important to de-colonilized the imagination.

No se como se diferencia, pero si noto una colonizacion en el campo artístico, y me parece que es importante descolonizar la imaginación.

What drives you to create?
What drives me to create is the need to do so. The times I have tried something different I’ve felt very bored. Only by doing things, by creating, everything makes sense.

Lo que me lleva a crear es la necesidad de hacerlo. Cuándo he intentando hacer otras cosas en la vida me he aburrido mucho. sólo haciendo cosas, creando, todo hace sentido.

In your work there is a combination of pain and joy, am I right with that thought?
Yes, in my work there is a mix of many emotions because basically I work creating from what I feel more than from what I see.

It is very hard for me to draw looking into an external source. To me, drawing is to invoke what happens inside me and create symbols of it.

En tu trabajo hay una combinación entre el dolor y el gozo, ¿Es correcto?
Sí, en mi trabajo hay mezcla de muchas emociones, porque básicamente trabajo sobre lo que siento más que sobre lo que veo.
Me cuesta mucho dibujar mirando un referente externo, para mi dibujar es invocar lo que me pasa interiormente y hacer símbolos de eso.

How do you begin your one of your pieces?
It depends on the material and the moment. At my workplace,
sculptorical attempts arise from experimenting intuitively and consciously in the present, formal issues fall into place slowly and all intentions give way to the unexpected. Usually I don't know where I'm heading to, and usually I end up far away from my expectations.
Normally I begin my drawings from a fragment of reality; from there, each line at its own pace, weaves the spirit of the moment.

¿Cómo comienza uno de tus trabajos?
El comienzo depende del material y del momento, los ensayos escultóricos surgen de encuentros en el taller, desde una experimentación intuitiva y consciente del presente, las cuestiones formales se resuelven poco a poco, y las intenciones pierden fuerza para abrir espacio a lo inesperado.
Usualmente no sé donde voy, o siempre termino lejos de lo esperado.
Normalmente los dibujos los empiezo de un fragmento de la realidad, y de ahí las lineas, a su ritmo van tejiendo el espíritu propio del momento.

Which places interest you?
I am interested in personal territories, such as familiar spaces, known and acknowledged, where memory and identity have roots. I am interested in the corner of the park under the trees, rivers as a metaphor of flow, bridges that connect situations, and mountains where you loose sight and feel small.

¿Qué espacios te interesan?
Me interesan los territorios propios, como espacios familiares, conocidos y reconocibles, donde la memoria y la identidad tienen raíces.
Me interesa esa esquina de parque bajo los arboles, los ríos como metáfora de flujo, los puentes para unir situaciones, las montañas para perder la mirada y sentirse pequeño.

What things from the real world do you relate with your work?
The rivers, music, rain, the forest, autumn... they all change in an instant.

¿Qué cosas del mundo real te suenan o relacionas con tus obras?
Los ríos, la música, la lluvia, los bosques continentales, el otoño... todos varian en el instante.

¿How does your emotions affect the creative process of your artwork?
The creative process is to me, most of the times, an emotions converter. Many times I am moved by existential sadness and through this process I transform it into love for life, something like the biodiesel obtained out of trash.

¿Cómo afectan tus emociones al proceso de creación de tu obra?
El proceso de creacion es para mi la mayor parte del tiempo un convertidor de emociones, muchas veces lo que me moviliza es la tristeza o bien existencial o bien por el curso general del mundo y por este proceso la transformo en amor a la vida, algo así como el biocombustible que se obtiene de la basura.

¿Why do you think you have that need to create?
It is a vital necessity, and I believe if I didn't do it I would wither or destroy things, because it is a powerful force, but at the same time it is an addiction, because I can induce myself into plenitude states, I don't know how nirvana feels but It should be something similar to what I experience at the peak of the creative process, and I know how to attain it, so why should I stop doing it?

¿Por qué crees que tienes esa necesidad de crear?
Es una necesidad vital creo que de no hacerlo me marchitaria o destruiria cosas, porque es una fuerza muy poderosa, pero al mismo tiempo es una adicción, porque puedo autoinducirme estados de plenitud, no se como se siente el nirvana pero debe ser algo parecido a lo que experimento en el momento mas álgido de creación y sé como lograrlo, porque he de dejar de hacerlo?

What could you say about one of your images that you really like? ¿Could you also tell us something about an image you really like from someone else?
I like this picture because it shows my favorite point of view, I like to silently lie on the grass, for a while, until I see things like this, as a fantastic world that I can inhabit, either because I get tiny or because it grows around me, and, in second place, because the photography turns it into plastic, I am interested in the artificiality that photography has despite its pretension of truth-reality

I like Apak, I saw them and returned home with a warm heart, that's what happens to me with the world they live in.

¿Qué podrías contarnos de una imagen tuya que te guste mucho? ¿Y podrías contarnos algo de una imagen de otra persona que te guste mucho, por qué te gusta?
Me gusta esta foto mía en primer lugar porque es mi punto de vista preferido, me gusta tirarme en el pasto en silencio un rato largo hasta que veo las cosas asi, como un mundo fantástico que puedo habitar o bien porque empequeñezco o bien porque crece, y en segundo lugar porque la fotografia lo vuelve plástico, a mi me interesa acentuar la artificialidad que la fotografia posee a pesar de sus pretensiones de verdad-realidad.

Me gusta Apak, fui a verlos y volÍi a mi casa con el corazÓn tibio; eso es lo que me sucede con el mundo en el que viven.

¿How do you like to show your images and in which spaces?
I like to show my pictures in places where a big percentage of people who see them are people with whom I could share a beer with.

¿Cómo te gusta mostrar tus imágenes y en qué espacios?
Me gusta mostrar mis fotos en lugares donde un gran porcentaje de concurrentes sean personas con las que me podrÍa sentar a tomar una cerveza.

In your work process, how important are to you the observers of your images? what role do they play? Since I grew up in a small town, where the other's look is omniprescent, I don't get along well with it; sometimes it inhibits me, others it leads me to complacency and others it turns me into a punk, and in any of those cases its me. I spent many years without showing what I do and I am getting used to it little by little.

¿Qué importancia tienen para ti ó qué papel crees que tienen l@s observador@s de tus imágenes en todo el proceso de tu trabajo? Me gusta mostrar mis fotos en lugares donde un gran porcentaje de concurrentes sean personas con las que me podrÍa sentar a tomar una cerveza.
Como crecí en una ciudad pequeña donde la mirada del otro es omnipresente, no me llevo muy bien con ella; aveces me inhibe aveces me induce a la complacencia y aveces me pone punk y ninguna de las tres soy yo. Pasé muchos años sin mostrar lo que hacia y voy acostumbrandome de a poco.

Do you feel a difference in your work in the last few years, and if so, do you understand why?
I feel that I'm more connected and more aware of the visions that arises; that's how I can imprint an intention on them, that is, I can direct them towards someone coming to look for them. I believe all of it has to do with a spiritual change that has been occurring slowly within me, and with which I have connected using my work as a starting point.

¿Sientes alguna diferencia en tu trabajo en los últimos años, y si sí, entiendes por qué?
Siento que estoy conectada y más alerta a las visiones que van surgiendo , así les puedo imprimir una intención, es decir las puedo dirigir a alguien que viene a buscarlas.
Yo creo que todo eso tiene que ver con un cambio espiritual que se ha ido desarrollando en mi poco a poco , con el que he ido conectando a partir de mi trabajo.

In which level your life and you work are connecting?
In Every Level. All my work is nothing more but my personal diary. Everytime I see it in retrospective, I remember each moment as if it was a movie that goes back. All my feelings are there.
En todos los niveles.

¿En qué nivel tu vida y tu trabajo se conectan?
Todo mi trabajo no es más que mi diario personal.
Cada vez que lo veo en retrospectiva recuerdo cada momento como una pelicula que se devuelve. Todos mis sentimientos estan allí.

In art making, what is evident for you and what is a mystery for you?
What's evident is that I can't disconnect my art making from my life and my visions. What's a mistery to me is the power the images later have over specific situations and persons. It's also a mistery what's yet to come...

Al hacer tu arte, ¿qué es lo evidente para ti y qué es todavía un misterio?
Es evidente, que no puedo no desconectarlo de mi vida y mis visiones, es un misterio el poder que producen luego las imagenes en casos y personas especificas.
Es un misterio tambien lo que esta por venir...

Animal Collective, but I listen to all sort of things.

Animal collective, pero por lo general escucho muchas cosas.

If a younger artist asked you for advice regarding the creative process, what would you tell him/her?
I don't know, I think it's good for every person to have its own personal way of seeing things.
Si alguien más joven que tú te pidiera un consejo acerca del proceso creativo, ¿qué le dirías?
No se, creo que es bueno que cada persona tenga su forma personal de ver las cosas.

I like them when I know I've finished them at the right moment, not before nor after.

Me gusta cuando sé que lo terminé en el momento justo, ni antes ni después.

Tell me about one...
I have one that is a seed with a lot of roots that didn't sprout. It's special because I did it in a moment of my life when i felt like i didn't have a floor.

Hablame de uno en especial:
Hay uno que es una semilla que echó muchas raíces pero no germinó. Es especial porque lo hice en un momento en el que me sentía sin piso.

When you draw something, do you think about somebody?
No, not about somebody, about particular situations yes.

Cuando dibujas algo, lo haces pensando en alguien?
No, en alguien no. En situaciones particulares si.

"When do you draw?
I don't draw all the time, but I like to know that I can do it whenever i feel like it, It's like having a t.v. even though you don't turn it on. It comes in waves.

¿Cuándo dibujas?
No dibujo todo el tiempo, pero me gusta saber que lo puedo hacer en cualquier momento, algo así como tener televisión aunque uno no la prenda.
Viene por olas.

Do you listen to music when you draw? (to) which?
Not particularly.

¿Oyes música mientras dibujas? ¿cuál?
No particularmente.

When did you started to paint / draw, and how is it like to be an artist where you live?
I started painting when I was a child and it is very nice to be an artist in Israel, it would be also nice if I were an artist in China.

Empecé a pintar cuando era una niña y es muy lindo ser artista en Israel, también sería lindo si fuera una artista en China.

How is your working routine (if you have any)?
I work whenever I have some time (and I have very little).

¿Cómo es tu rutina al trabajar (si tienes alguna)?
Trabajo cuando tengo tiempo (y tengo muy poco).

How is the process of creating each piece, and when do you know if it's ready or not?
Each piece has it own process and I try to make it different each time, so I have many processes. I usually feel when a work is finished and sometimes I never feel is finished.

¿Cómo es el proceso de creación en cada obra y cuándo sabes que está lista o no?
Cada obra tiene su propio proceso y trato de hacerlo diferente cada vez, entonces tengo muchos procesos. Generalmente siento cuando una obra está terminada y aveces siento que nunca se ha terminado.

What are your biggest inspirations, outside of art?
I get inspired by music and movies.

¿Cuáles son tus mayores inspiraciones fuera del arte?
Me siento inspirada por la música y las peículas.

Most important thing for you as an artist and as a person.
The most important thing for me is health.

Do you find yourself more attracted to work that is not like your own, or work that has similarities to yours?

I feel attracted and inspired by many different types of work not
just only the one which I feel have similarity with what I do.

¿Te sientes más atraída por el trabajo que no es parecido al tuyo o el trabajo que se le parece?
Me siento atraída e inspirada por diferentes tipos de trabajo no solo por el que tiene similitudes al mío.

Which comes first for you-the concept or the image?

I always work with layers (like paper or fabric) which for me
represent the way both human beings and nature are composed so I guess
the concept is already there when I start to work. What I like concentrating the most on is the process rather than the final image or result.

¿Qué viene primero para ti el concepto o la imagen?
Siempre trabajo por capas (como el papel o la tela) que para mí representa de lo que se componen los seres humanos y la naturaleza, creo que el concepto está allí cuando empiezo a trabajar. Entonces prefiero concentrarme más en el proceso que en la imagen final o el resultado.

Do you have any artistic blocks? What do you do to solve them?
I do have artistic blocks and the only thing that helps me overcome
them is to keep on working.

¿Tienes bloqueos artísticos? ¿Cómo los solucionas?
Sí, tengo bloqueos artísticos y lo único que me ayuda a solucionarlos es seguir trabajando.

Which are the best moments to paint?
When you need less to paint. When it comes to you without calling it. That's why I prefer the night.

Cuando menos necesitas pintar. Cuando viene a ti sin llamarlo. Por eso prefiero la noche.

Do you have a routine or do you choose it upon your mood?
I try to have a routine and convince myself I need to finish some works, but my better works are those which have nothing to do with routine.So now I take routine only as an exercise.

¿Tenés una rutina o los elegís en base a tu animo?
Intento tener una rutina y me convenzo a mi misma de que necesito terminar algunos de mis trabajos, pero mis mejores trabajos son aquellos que no tienen nada que ver con la rutina. Entonces ahora tomo la rutina como un ejercicio.

The night is something I sense appears a lot in your paintings, What does that moment generates in you?
When it is dark I see better what I need to see.

La noche es algo que siento aparece mucho en tus pinturas ¿qué cosas te genera ese momento?
Cuando esta oscuro veo mejor lo que que necesito ver.

In what do you find sense?
In love. All sorts of them.

¿Por qué decidiste ser artista? ¿Cuál es la satisfacción que te trae?

Creo que más que haber tomado una decisión acerca de lo que quiero ser atravieso un lento proceso de liberación de antiguos terrores para abrazar lo que me dice la vida que debo hacer, como una especie de sensación del deber que viene implícita en la oscura certeza de poder hacer algunas cosas. Hago saltos entre las cosas que me hacen vibrar de manera inconsistentemente obsesiva, es decir, con mucha intensidad pero por corto tiempo. En ese sentido, la satisfacción casi nunca aparece, siendo justamente su opuesto lo que me impulsa a tratar siempre otra cosa, algo diferente.

Why did you decide to become an artist? What’s the satisfaction it brings to you?

I don’t think I took the decision to become an artist. It’s been rather a slow process of getting rid of old terrors as I embrace what life’s telling me to do, with a strange sense of responsibility behind the obscure desire to make things. I’ve never had a clear aim. I jump from one thing to another, and attach myself to what I do during very short periods of time but in a very intense way. In this sense, satisfaction hardly appears, for it is precisely the lack of satisfaction what makes me want to try something else, something different.

¿Qué otra cosa pensás que podrías hacer si no fueras artista?

Me gusta la idea de un trabajo donde lo que uno hace ayuda directamente al bienestar de otro. En esta categoría cabrían oficios tan variados como médico, masajista y prostituta.

What would you do if you were not an artist?

I kind of like the idea of serving others, the feeling of usefulness for someone else’s well being. Helping someone feel better would fit for professions as diverse as doctor, masseuse and prostitute.

¿Qué es el arte para vos?

Es como una traducción caprichosa del mundo, donde el traductor genera un mundo nuevo, diferente al que creó la primera experiencia, enriqueciéndolo, y constituyendo a su vez una experiencia primaria para otro ser.

What’s art for you?

It’s like a free translation of the experience of the world, where the translator creates a new one, different from the one where the first experience came from, making it richer (hopefully) as it becomes a primal experience for someone else.

¿Quién te inspira? ¿Por qué?

El mundo y sus habitantes. Es inevitable. Cada ser vivo tiene algo de bonito y cada cosa bonita tiene algo de terrible. Eso me maravilla.

Who inspires you and why?

The world and its inhabitants inspire me. It cannot be helped. Every living thing has something beautiful to it, and every beautiful thing has something tragic as well. I find that wonderful.

¿Cómo es tu proceso creativo?

Se parece a la cocina. Necesito que confluyan varios ingredientes para que funcione la receta, entonces a veces falta algo que hace que el plato sea lo que quiero, o aparece un ingrediente inesperado que lo hace más rico. Así, a veces no tengo ganas de comer pero necesito cocinar, y en el rigor del esfuerzo brota algo delicioso, sin avisar, y el apetito regresa.

How is your creative process?

It’s similar to cooking. One needs certain ingredients to create a specific meal. But at times something might be missing or an unplanned ingredient appears from nowhere, making it all more tasty (as in flavor, not in “the good aesthetics” sense). There’re also moments when one happens to not be hungry at all, but one needs to prepare something all the same, so in the process of making, a delicious smell comes out and it brings back the appetite.

Since you imagine yourself painting at the edge of the world, how is
it like to be painting in Taiwan?

I want to say I ‘m sorry. In fact I do really want to find the scenery
of the edge of the world, but I just can't get there yet.
I used to only think about myself when I was doing my projects.

But more important is: What's the relationship between my works and
the society I live in.

Si tú imaginas que estás pintando en el fin del mundo, ¿Cuál es el
significado para ti de pintar en Taiwan?

Quiero decir que lo siento. En realidad quisiera encontrar la
escenografía del fin del mundo pero no he podido llegar aún allá.
Solía pensar solo en mí cuando hacía mis proyectos.
Pero lo más importante es: Qué relación hay entre mis trabajos y la
sociedad donde yo vivo.

Choose a color or a combination of 3 colors and talk about them.

I especially love blue, blue with a little green or gray .
It’s like a person going into the deepest part of the forest.

Escoge un color o la combinación de tres y habla de ellos

Especialmente amo el azul, azul con un poquito de verde o gris.

In your drawings I see the different connections which emerge of
your own fiction. Choose a drawing and reconstruct or invent the
process of its creation, please...

I can’t always be certain of the last looks. I often change and change with
my mood. Or sometimes I paint something, but I just feel something
wrong. so I will stop it ,and in after days I try to understand it.
But sometimes I give up , and I‘ll to put a cover over it.

In the pic 1 I started to paint 2 men, and i wanted to make them seem
hypocritical
and stand before many people. This made me think of certain activities
in Taipei.
These activities were about Sanying Aboriginal Community in Taipei County.
Their homeland was dismantled by the government without any warning in
February, 2008. So ,,, I changed their faces.

En tus dibujos veo conexiones que surgen de tus ficciones. Por favor
escoge uno de tus dibujos y háblanos de su proceso de creación.

Nunca sé con certeza cómo se ven mis dibujos al final. Con frecuencia
cambio y cambio las cosas dependiendo de mi estado anímico. A veces
pinto algo pero tengo la sensación de que no está del todo bien así
que me detengo e intento entender qué sucede. A veces no lo logro y
simplemente lo cubro con algo.
En la foto 1 comencé a dibujar dos hombres y quería que tuvieran una
mirada hipócrita y que estuvieran frente a mucha gente. Eso me hizo
pensar en ciertas actividades que sucedieron aquí en Taiwán contra la
comunidad aborigen Sanying de Taipei. En febrero de 2008 y sin previo
aviso sus asentamientos fueron desmanteladas por el gobierno. Así que
decidí cambiar las caras de mis personajes.

In your photographs I see a dream-like atmosphere that reminisces
the ambiguity of your drawings. Whats is the relationship between
photography and drawing for you?

I think maybe the pictures could be something temporary. And they will
help me to store the feeling and sensation of my experiences.

En tus fotografías veo una atmósfera onírica que me recuerda la
ambiguedad de tus dibujos, ¿cuál es para ti la relación entre
fotografía y dibujo?

Creo que las fotos son algo temporal. Ellas me ayudan a conservar los
sentimientos y las sensaciones de mis experiencias. Quizá.

I find traces of actions that reflect your world, can you talk about it?

I feel my Exit is broken / I hope that it is just provisional.

Encuentro que hay trazos de acciones que reflejan tu mundo, ¿podrías
hablar de eso?

Siento que mi Salida está rota / Espero que sea algo provisional.

Why do you draw?
I don't know, I have always drawn, even while making other things. I like drawing very much, I like it if there is few elements, only paper and pencil.

No se, siempre dibujé, aún mientras hacía otras cosas. Me gusta el dibujo mucho, me gusta que sean pocos elementos, nada más el papel y lápiz.

Is there anything you don't like about drawing?
I like to draw only what it occurs to me, I don't like to draw with a previous guideline; when it's like this I have a hard time enjoying it.

¿Hay algo que no te guste sobre dibujar?
Me gusta dibujar solo lo que se me ocurre, no me gusta dibujar con una pauta previa. Cuando es así me cuesta mucho disfrutarlo.

How do you approach white paper,do you have any sort of "ritual"?
When I start to draw generally I have an image in my head of something, an idea, and I erase a lot, as if they were attempts that don't go out right, until theres is something I like and from there I continued, but after a while of erasing and erasing.

¿Cómo te acercas al papel en blanco, tienes algùn tipo de "ritual"?
Cuando empiezo a dibujar generalmente tengo una imagen en la cabeza de algo, una idea, y borro mucho, como si fueran intentos que no me salen bien, hasta que algo me gusta y ahí lo sigo, pero despues de un largo rato de borrar y borrar.

¿How do you define your art work?
Drawings of dream-like situations and emotional experiences.

¿Cómo defines tu trabajo?
Dibujos de situaciones oníricas y experiencias emocionales.

¿Where does the imaginary of your artwork comes from?
It comes out of situations that I live, the city, sometimes a dream that I might have had or things that happen around me and around people that are close to me. I am very much inspired by nature and animals, and everything involving it.

¿De dónde sale el imaginario de tu obra?
Sale de situaciones que he vivido, de la ciudad, aveces algún sueño que he tenido o cosas que suceden a mi alrededor o las personas cercanas a mí. Me inspira mucho la naturaleza y los animales y todo lo que se relaciona a esto.

¿How is your creative process?
Before I start any work, I like to make a few sketches. I usually carry around an sketchbook with me, where I make some drawings and take some notes, than later on I just take all these ideas and put them together in the final drawing. I’ll start by seeing what goes well together with what and just create this little situation or story, which comes to me in an unconscious way I guess.

¿Cómo es tu proceso creativo?
Antes de comenzar cualquier trabajo, me gusta hacer algunos bocetos. Normalmente cargo conmigo un cuaderno, donde dibujo y tomo algunas notas, después tomo todas estas ideas y las junto en el dibujo final. Empiezo a mirar que va bien junto con que, y creo una pequeña situación o historia, que viene a mi de una manera inconsciente, creo.

¿What triggers you to create?
The different challenges and excitement that the act of drawing gives me. The great feeling that I get during and afterwards.

¿Qué te impulsa a crear?
Los diferentes retos y la emoción que el acto de dibujar me brinda. Y la gran sensación que recibo durante y después de hacerlo.

¿What music do you like to listen to while you work?/
Lately I’ve been listening to Bob Dylan, Nina Simone, Animal Collective and Devendra Banhart. I also like to listen to some Brazilian artists, like Caetano Veloso, Chico Buarque and Jorge Ben.

How you would define the drawings and what it means in your work?

I don't know about definition, I can only give a testimony of how I feel about drawing. I feel it is something I can do in a certain way, a present I have received from the one who created all. And in different periods of my life I could use it for different purposes and it surprised me what came out, and was reflected in the drawing. It helped me understand there is a thing called intuition. I suppose most of the drawings in the last 5 years are a reflection for feelings in different levels, but I can also choose to draw it or not.

¿Cómo defines tus dibujos y qué significan en tu trabajo?

No puedo definirlos, solo puedo dar testimonio de cómo me siento dibujando. Siento que es algo que puedo hacer de alguna forma, un regalo que recibí de aquel que lo creó todo. En diferentes periodos de mi vida he dibujado para diferentes propósitos y me sorprende lo que sale de ahí y que se refleja en el dibujo. Me ayuda a entender que hay algo llamado intuición. Supongo que lo que he dibujado en éstos 5 años han sido reflejos de sentimientos en diferentes niveles, pero además puedo escoger dibujarlo o no.

When and why you decided to begin to do comics?

For a long time I wanted to draw a comic that I would like. Since I was 12 until I was 25 I didn't like any comic I had drawn. and then after several ingredients in the casserole were cooked enough I could sit for one year and do the story I actually felt was truthful (after asking several people if it's not pathetic). And it was all i wanted to do. And then I could relax about making comics and could continue my life without this obsession (which I have nothing against, only I'm relieved I did not stay in the same spot).

¿Cuándo y por qué decidiste comenzar hacer cómics?

Por mucho tiempo quise dibujar historietas que me gustaran. Desde que tenía 12 años hasta los 25 no me gustó ninguna historieta que hice. Y después de que varios ingredientes en la olla se cocinaron lo suficiente, pude sentarme un año y escribí una historia que siento que es honesta ( después de preguntarle a un montón de gente si no era patética) Y era todo lo que quería hacer. Luego pude relajarme y dejar de hacer historietas y continuar mi vida sin ésta obsesión (no tengo nada contra las historietas pero me siento aliviada de no seguir haciendo lo mismo).

What for and for whom do you make your work?

I think it changed several times. and also I think simultaneously it was for several purposes. But it is not that strange because there is not a limit for the number of lessons we can acquire from every experience if we only choose to notice what can be the special message for us that is transferred through everything in life. For whom I did it? for people I wanted to get their attention at the time, and for people I believed were a bit like me, and for myself in order to move on. It was my way to communicate this need.

¿Para qué y para quién haces tu trabajo?

Creo que eso ha cambiado muchas veces y tengo muchos propósitos simultáneos. Pero no es extraño porque no hay límites para todas las lecciones que se pueden aprender de cada experiencia si escogemos el mensaje particular para nosotros, de esta manera la lección es transferible a todo en la vida. ¿Para quién lo hice? Para las personas que quería que me pusieran atención en ese momento, para gente que creía que era como yo y para mí, para poder seguir adelante. Era mi forma de comunicar ésta necesidad.

I read you are from Israel, but you have traveled to other countries... so those travels interfere, define or have an influence on your artistic work?

I don't know exactly, it's a part of everything that is going on. Things are not separated. But I have 3 drawings of a tree. From Paris, Tel-aviv and India. It's nice.. each tree with it's own story. It's all memories eventually, and all a part of one thing.

Leí que eres de Israel pero has viajado a otros países ¿crees que esos viajes interfieren, definen o han influenciado tu trabajo?

No sé exactamente, es parte de todo lo que pasa, las cosas no están separadas, pero tengo tres dibujos de un árbol, Uno lo hice en París, el otro en Telaviv y el último en India. Es lindo, cada árbol tiene su propia historia, son memorias eventualmente y todo es parte de algo.

Can you live on your work as an artist or must you make other things?

I have never tried to live from it.. I have worked in graphic design for the past 10 years.

Vives como artista o te toca hacer otras cosas para sobrevivir?

Nunca he intentado vivir del arte, trabajo como diseñadora gráfica desde hace 10 años.

What’s your work about? / ¿De qué se trata tu obra?
I think it’s about the simple things in life; it focuses on everyday things, like a pillow or a supermarket bag. When I do illustrations I use the same approach, they’re usually monsters or animals that have domestic chores, common lives: they sweep, hang their clothes, party on their birthdays, eat cheese, feel embarrassed, and are afraid, get sad.
I like to work with color and basic shapes, take it to different planes, three-dimensional or 2d but real, translating the digital world to something more tangible./
Creo que se focaliza en las cosas sencillas de la vida, se concentra en elementos cotidianos, como una almohada, o una bolsa para ir al supermercado.
Cuando ilustro también existe el mismo enfoque, son monstruos o animales que tienen tareas domésticas, vidas comunes: barren, cuelgan la ropa, festejan cumpleaños, comen queso, tienen vergüenza, miedo, tristeza.
Me gusta trabajar con el color y las formas básicas, llevarlo a distintos planos, tridimensionales o 2d pero reales. Trasladar un poco el mundo digital a algo más tangible.

How do you do it? / ¿Cómo lo haces?
I like to work with different materials and I like discovering new uses for them. Depending on each case I work in a different way. Sometimes I sketch some ideas in my computer and I think about what their possibilities of existing in real life are. I like it when I explore an area that is unknown to me because it helps me understand new things that might be done./
Elijo trabajar con diferentes materiales, e ir descubriendo nuevos usos para ellos.
Dependiendo el caso trabajo de distinta manera.
A veces boceto algunas ideas en compu y analizo las posibilidades de que eso que pienso pueda existir realmente. Me gusta cuando exploro un rubro no muy conocido por mi, porque me ayuda a entender que cosas nuevas se pueden proponer.

Why do you do it? / ¿Por qué lo haces?
Because I enjoy it, I enjoy the whole process from the research to the finished piece, every moment gives me satisfaction. Sometimes I get paid but that doesn’t happen always. /
Porque lo disfruto, al momento de investigar sobre algo, hacerlo y verlo terminado, cada instancia me da satisfacción. A veces tengo una remuneración económica, pero no sucede en todos los casos.

I used to like Anthony Goicolea and Rineke Dijkstra; Goicolea because of the atmospheres he manages to create and Rineke for her simplicity. There are lots of people I admire and whose work directly or indirectly influences me; luckily I am always interested in getting to know new things and artists and different things as well. /
En su momento me gustaba mucho Anthony Goicolea y Rineke Dijkstra, Goicolea por los climas que logra, y Rineke por su simpleza. Hay infinidad de gente que admiro y siento que directa e indirectamente me influye, por suerte me inquieta conocer siempre cosas nuevas, artistas y todo lo demás también.

What’s your work about? / ¿De qué se trata tu obra?
It’s not very pretentious; I just like doing it, sometimes I make up subjects as excuses to draw and every once in a while (although not too often) I make drawings about my life. Anyway, all of my drawings are very personal. What I’m trying to do now is lose all the clichés I’ve been taught and draw in a more spontaneous way; it’s very difficult but in the process, interesting things start to happen. I also like to publish drawing books so people can color them in./
No es muy pretenciosa, simplemente me gusta hacerlo, a veces me invento temas como excusas para dibujar, y muy de vez en cuando solo cuando algo me toca muchísimo hago dibujos sobre mi vida. Igual todos terminan siendo muy personales. Ahora lo que estoy intentando es perder un poco los clichés de dibujo aprendidos, dibujar de una manera más espontanea, es bien difícil, pero en el proceso van saliendo cosas interesantes. Me gusta también publicar pequeños libros de dibujos para que la gente los coloree.

How do you do it? / ¿Cómo lo haces?
First I look at things I like (specially other people’s drawings), then I start drawing and what comes out is a mixture of what I’ve seen with what I add to that. Music and my surroundings really affect the work. Actually I’m not really sure how it works but I’m always surprised by the results. I like painting at home but I also enjoy getting together with other people to draw. Now I like to draw a lot more than before and my drawings are constantly changing (like me)./
Miro antes muchas cosas que me gustan (dibujos de otras personas sobre todo) y luego resulta ser una mezcla de todo lo visto más lo que le aporto yo al apropiarme de todo eso, la música y el lugar donde esté realmente influyen mucho en el resultado, en realidad no sé muy bien cómo funciona pero al final siempre me sorprendo con el dibujo que sale, simplemente va saliendo. Me gusta pintar en la casa, pero a veces me reúno con gente a dibujar, eso ha sido una buena experiencia, ahora me gusta dibujar mucho más que antes y al hacerlo constantemente por si solos los dibujos van cambiando, como uno, hay que dibujar mucho.

Why do you do it? / ¿Por qué lo haces?
It gives me a certain peace and happiness I can’t really describe. It’s something I need to do, if a week goes by and I haven’t painted anything, I feel terrible. I like everyone’s drawings; they’re all very valuable.
I do it because I think drawing is really important in everyone’s lives, we should all do it daily as a way to learn things, and, well, I don’t know many things but drawing definitely makes me have a different relation with shapes./
Me da cierta tranquilidad_felicidad no puedo describirlo bien, y ya es algo que necesito hacer, si no pinto nada en una semana me siento mal, me gusta mucho que los dibujos de todas las personas son diferentes, son muy valiosos todos.
Lo hago porque creo que el dibujo es realmente importante en la vida de todas las personas, todos deberíamos hacerlo a diario, como una manera de aprender, y bueno yo no sé muchas cosas, pero definitivamente dibujar me permite tener otro tipo de relaciones con las formas.

Lots of new people I see on the internet, mi son’s drawings (he’s 7 years old), they have an amazing freedom.
Actually I am inspired by people who don’t usually draw or people who haven’t been taught how to draw, I like their freedom, ‘poorly done’ drawings. And, well, throughout the history of art there are astounding artists, the list would be endless./

In general I work with black ink on paper. Most of them are painted with acrylics or pure pigments. I also use papers and trimmed stickers./
Por lo general trabajo con tinta negra sobre papel. En su mayoría están pintados y para eso uso acrílico o pigmentos puros. También utilizo papeles y stickers recortados.

I do it for me, because I need it I suppose. I don't ask myself too much about it.

I wonder about what it’s taken for granted, trying to create, re-create, re-place and compare it, looking for a space to dialogue and exchange between who’s talking and who’s listening and reacting.
Words, rhythm and music crossed their paths to produce assimilable truths that I doubt about.
I also make homemade music and drawings by hand.

Me pregunto sobre lo que se da por hecho, y trato de crear, re-crear, re-posicionar y compararlo, buscando un espacio para el diálogo e intercambio entre quien habla y quien escucha y reacciona.
La palabra, el ritmo y la música se cruzan y buscan para producir verdades asimilables de las que dudo.
También hago música y dibujos de manera artesanal.

It depends on the situation and the question I have. I need others to create and to activate what I do.
Homemade music is done by computer cutting and pasting. Now I have a midi keyboard.

All my work are interests that I have. Wishes that came true.
In everything I do there is a different intention. I make them to make
statements that have no importance if they are said, but that are valued differently if they are embroided.
I also want them to have an autobiographical character.
I also do things for others. The pieces of jewellery are made by order and the haircuts are an agreement between
the other and me. I make words to join them with the soul, to keep
them present, it's different when a word becomes a piece of jewerly,
it acquires another power. I cut hair because it is a conclusive
symbol ofour actual identities, I like to play the roll of an
aesthetic shaman or something like that.../
Todo mi trabajo son inquietudes. Deseos hechos realidad.
En cada cosa que hago hay una intención diferente.
Lo hago para decir cosas que dichas no tienen importancia pero bordadas, por ejemplo, tienen otro valor.
También busco que tengan un caracter autobiográfico. Además hago cosas para los demás.
Las joyas son por encargo y el corte de pelo es un acuerdo que se hace entre el otro y yo.
Hago palabras para fundirlas con el alma, para mantenerlas presentes.
Es diferente una palabra cuándo se vuelve joya, adquiere un poder distinto.

Giving in to a certainty (bigger than myself), that I'm capable of doing it.
I don't think I improvise. I don't plan but I give myself away. I'm not an intellectual. Intuition is my helm./

Because i'd be bored otherwise, and also to find a place within the world of others.
I fear the feeling of isolation, even though my soul always is (isolated).
I make embroidery because it pleases me and gives me sensations that nothing else can give me.
I make jewellery, because i like to go from drawing to object (and feeling drawings that can be touched out of the paper) and also because I like to believe that reality and words are joint at one moment.
I cut hair because I feel Shamanic, transformer, because I like people and stories...but specially because I love lines, and hairs, and threads...they look like my thoughts./
Para no aburrirme y para encontrar un lugar dentro del mundo de otros.
Me asusta sentirme aislada, aunque mi alma siempre lo esta.
Bordo porque me place y me lleva a sensaciones que nada más puede darme.
Hago joyería porque me gusta pasar del dibujo al objeto ( y tener dibujos que se pueden palpar fuera del papel) y porque me gusta creer que la realidad y las palabras en algún momento se funden.
Corto el pelo porque me hace sentir chámanica, transformadora, porque me gusta la gente y las historias... pero sobretodo porque me gustan las líneas, los pelos, los hilos....se parecen a mis pensamientos./

I am attracted to the femenine creative power because it feels close to what I do Louise Bourgeois, Frida Kahlo, Paola Gaviria, Sophie Calle, Tracey Emin, Björk, Coco Rosie, Pj Harvey and my grnadmother who was a domestic artist silently powerful, among others. I should also say Jose Antonio Suarez, Joseph Beuys and all those super heroes of art history, that of course have gotten to me at times./

It's an attempt of cartography, about reflections of read stories, of common territories,
of personal atmospheres, about the simple contemplation of a landscape, a disinterested glance of the horizon and the recognition of the inhabited place. It's a matter of memory, repetition and transformation, instability and appearance, between painting and drawing aspiring to become sculpture./
Es un intento de cartografía, de reflejos de historias leídas, de territorios comunes,
de atmósferas personales, entre la simple contemplación del paisaje, en una mirada desinteresada al horizonte
perdido y el reconocimiento al lugar habitado (identitario). Es una cuestión de memoria, de repetición y transformación, de

I'm not sure, but i love to be lost in the lines, to look for routes,
read maps, spend time between the color and the eternity of the image,
look for the blue of the sky in the sea, and the sea in the sky./

These two comic books were done in order to achieve some peace and also i wanted recognition among people i admired, and i really enjoyed doing it. And also it was the only thing that naturally came out of me during the period it was done, like when you have a cold naturally your nose is pouring liquid and then the disease is over and it’s hard to remember how it was back then when your nose was wet but you know it was the only situation happening./
Éstos dos libros fueron hechos para conseguir algo de paz y reconocimiento entre la gente que yo admiraba, y disfruté mucho haciéndolos. Y solo eso salía de mí con naturalidad en el periodo en que los hice; como cuando tienes una gripe que tu nariz derrama un líquido con naturalidad y luego cuando sales de la enfermedad es difícil recordar cómo era antes cuando tu nariz estaba mojada, pero sabes que era la único que estaba pasando en ese momento.

It was drawn with black rapidographs. The more the work advanced the more they became thin.
I also use other pens and pencils when it fits./
Están dibujados con rapidógrafos de tinta negra. A medida que el trabajo avanzaba se iban volviendo más delgados. Aveces uso otros lápiceros y lápices cuando el trabajo lo pide.

It is an accumulation of many needs and it somehow helps to advance from them./ Por una acumulación de muchas necesidades y es así como voy saliendo de ellas.

Many artists influenced me in the past, but in this specific work (the comic books) I was obsessively fascinated by the way Robert Crumb is taking out his sufferings through his drawings and words, and by Aline Kominsky’s honesty and humor, and I liked very much the freedom in her drawings also. Their work gave me aspiration and my psychological situation gave me inspiration./
Muchos artistas me influenciaron, pero en éstos trabajos específicos (los libros de comics) estaba obsesivamente fascinada por la forma como Robert Crumb saca sus sufrimientos por medio de sus dibujos y palabras; y por la honestidad y humor de Aline Kominsky; y también me gusta mucho la libertad de sus dibujos. El trabajo de los dos me dio aspiración y mi situación psicológica me dio inspiración.

Mi nombre es Albany Henao Orozco, soy mujer, me dedico a tratar de pasarla bien en la vida, dibujo, pinto, amo la musica, me gusta el buen humor, cocinar, bailar y quien soy en realidad no lo se pero la paso bien conmigo.

What’s your work about? / ¿De qué se trata tu obra?
My work has to do with my surroundings. I choose something that catches my eye, an image, a scene, and then I reinterpret it my way. I use lots of resources, I try not to limit myself in terms of materials, I like variety and use watercolors, markers, threads, pens and different fabrics. I’m very interested by the human figure. Gestures, attitudes, and everything that is said by a glance are essential to me. The dialogue that is established by the drawings and their black humor are the central characteristic of my work./
La obra que realizo tiene que ver con la cotidianidad que me rodea en todo sentido, escojo algo que me llame la atencion una imagen, una escena y trato de reinterpretarla a mi estilo, para eso me valgo de muchos recursos, trato de no limitarme en cuanto a los materiales soy recursiva y me gusta la variedad. Trabajo con acuarelas, rotuladores, hilos, lápices, telas etc.
Me interesa mucho la fìgura humana. Para mí es imprescindible el gesto, la actitud, todo lo que se puede decir con una Mirada. El diálogo que se genera entre los dibujos y el humor negro constituyen lo más basico de la obra.

How do you do it? / ¿Cómo lo haces?
I carry in my bag a full drawing kit and when something catches my eye I draw it. Then, at home, I rework it and use it in a story or I leave it as a single piece. I use simple materials, I like to play with different things I accidentally encounter, I enjoy imagining different things./
Cargo en mi bolso un kit completo de dibujo, cuando algo me llama la atención lo dibujo y luego lo intervengo en mi casa y lo involucro en alguna historia o lo conservo como una sola pieza. Utilizo materiales sencillos soy recursiva a la hora de escoger los materiales de la obra me gusta jugar con todo lo que me encuentro y disfruto imaginando cosas.

Why do you do it? / ¿Por qué lo haces?
Because I can’t imagine doing something else, I like the adrenaline that comes along with this profession, where one is free to express thoughts and feelings, where every image is a challenge and an opportunity. I do it in order to live./
Porque no me imagino haciendo otra cosa, me gusta la adrenalina que representa para mí esta profesión, donde uno es libre de expresar sus pensamientos y emociones, donde cada imagen es un reto y una oportunidad, lo hago para poder vivir.

What artists have influenced you and why? / ¿Qué artistas influyen en tu obra y por qué?
In my work, more than specific artists, I find the influence of my surroundings and the stories that I’m exposed to. Although there are always artistic influences and I would name Egon Schiele, I like his torn and expressive line, and Jose Antonio Suarez for his delicateness and cleanliness in his drawings./
En mi obra influyen más que algún artista en especial el entorno y las historias que se viven día a día, obviamente hay influencias y gustos. Siempre he admirado mucho a Egon Schiele me gusta su trazo desgarrado y expresivo, José Antonio Suarez por su delicadeza y limpieza en el dibujo.

What’s your work about? / ¿De qué se trata tu obra?
My work is formed by the different imaginaries, fragments of space and time; traces that constitute individual and collective memory, identity.
The question that arises from the work is directed initially towards the private, the individual memory: the body and its own story, the objects and the intimate space, reflecting on being and inhabiting through recognizing oneself. Afterwards the field of action expands to delve upon the public sphere, mutating from one’s own body to the body of the city, from the individual to the collective, questioning the transformation of urban patrimony; the architectural remnants of the old city confront spectators and by-passers every day, resignifying the skins of urban memory.
All along the process a dispute between the private and the public is established. Its dividing line tends towards invisibility and then breaks, publicizing the private and privatizing the public, making evident the processes of social construction and deconstruction, the ways of inhabiting and going through space, the ways of belonging./

El trabajo se conforma a partir de los imaginarios, fragmentos de espacio y de tiempo; vestigios que constituyen la memoria individual y colectiva, la identidad.
En un primer momento la pregunta se enfoca hacia lo privado, a la memoria individual: el cuerpo y la historia propia, los objetos y el espacio íntimo reflexionando acerca del ser y el habitar desde el reconocerse a sí mismo. Posteriormente el campo de acción se expande para indagar sobre la esfera pública, mutando del cuerpo propio al cuerpo de la ciudad, de lo individual a lo colectivo, cuestionando la transformación del patrimonio urbano; los vestigios arquitectónicos de la vieja ciudad confrontan al espectador y/o al transeúnte en sus recorridos cotidianos, resignificando las pieles de la memoria urbana.
Se genera a lo largo del proceso una pugna entre el ámbito de lo privado y lo público, su línea divisoria cada vez más invisible se quebranta exponiendo lo privado y privatizando lo público, haciendo evidentes los procesos de construcción y de-construcción social, las formas de transitar y habitar el espacio, de pertenecer.

The last projects I have been working on are installations and interventions in public space, before that I worked with photography and other media./
Los últimos proyectos que he venido realizando son instalaciones e intervenciones en espacio público, anteriormente desarrollé algunos trabajos con fotografía y otros medios.

I believe that the context and the place where I live determine my work. Thinking about why I do it is complex, maybe it’s something that I need, I need to establish a point of view, or my right to do it. I believe that countries like Colombia must be looked at many times and from different points of view in order to understand what happens behind what we see in the surface, I do it because I need to reveal situations and put in discussion the imaginaries that I believe determine us./

Creo que el contexto en el que vivo define y determina mi trabajo, pensar un porqué es complejo, tal vez es una necesidad, la necesidad de poner un punto de vista, ¿o mi derecho a hacerlo?, creo que países como Colombia precisan ser mirados desde múltiples puntos y múltiples veces para entender un poco qué pasa por debajo de lo que se ve en la superficie, creo que simplemente lo hago por que necesito evidenciar situaciones y poner en discusión los imaginarios que creo nos determinan.

What artists have influenced you and why? / ¿Qué artistas influyen en tu obra y por qué?
From the Colombian artists I would have to name Mauricio Carmona, Urbe group, Doris Salcedo, Margarita Pineda, Oscar Muñoz. I’m interested in the way they see the conflict, very succinctly I can raise some points for each artist, like ruin/architecture, public space/ collective space, violence/context, memory, the ephemeral. In general I’m interested in the materials they use which are linked to the social and political situations of the country.
On the other hand, artists outside of Colombia which have influenced me are: Duchamp, who would be at the top of the list, with his ready-mades and recontextualisations. I would also name Michel Foucault, with his theories about the relationships of power and the book “The order of things”./

Creo que tendría que nombrar de los artistas colombianos a Mauricio Carmona, grupo Urbe, Doris Salcedo, Margarita Pineda, Oscar Muñoz, de ellos creo que en general me interesa su forma de ver el conflicto,
específicamente podría plantear muy someramente unos puntos específicos, para cada artista, como ruina/arquitectura, espacio publico/espacio colectivo, violencia/contexto, memoria, efímero
En general me interesa los materiales desde los que trabajan que tiene que ver directamente con las situaciones sociales y políticas del país; bueno y de otro lado están los artistas por fuera de Colombia, y creo que estaría Duchamp como el más trascendente, desde el ready made y las recontextualizaciones y de otro lado estaría Michel Foucault, con toda su teoría de las relaciones de poder y con el libro “las palabras y las cosas”.

What’s your work about? / De qué se trata tú obra?
My work attempts to represent symbolically how the human identity is made up by a series of layers both personal and alien, which overlap and mix between themselves aiding the creation of what each one of us is./
Mi obra pretende representar de manera simbólica cómo la identidad de los seres humanos está compuesta por una serie de placas, tanto propias como ajenas, que se sobreponen y se mezclan entre sí ayudando a conformar lo que cada uno de nosotros somos.

How do you do it? /Cómo la haces?
My starting point is a photograph, which then goes through a phase were I determine the contour lines and I finalize them by sculpting the portraits on books or many layers of paper. The process by which this is done is one where I combine elements that are painterly and sculptural./
Parto de una fotografía, la cual pasa después por una fase en la que determino las curvas de nivel y finalizo esculpiendo los retratos sobre libros o varias capas de papel. Esto lo hago por medio de un proceso en el que se combinan elementos tanto pictóricos como esculturales.

Why do you do it? /Porqué la haces?
Because I feel the need to create and this way I can materialize my ideas./

What artists have influenced you and why? Qué artistas influyen en tú obra y porqué?
My first artistic influences come from architecture. I started with architects such as Emilio Ambasz and Tadao Ando. Later on I began to know the works of Michael Heizer, Robert Smithson and other earthwork artists and I started to become interested by the way that they would intervene the landscape to express their ideas with an end, which wasn’t necessarily architectural but artistic. Another important influence has been the Brazilian Waltercio Caldas, whose work has inspired me to interpret my ideas and to create the terrains on paper./
Mis primeras influencias artísticas vienen de la arquitectura. Empecé con arquitectos tales como Emilio Ambasz y Tadao Ando. Más adelante comencé a conocer el trabajo de Michael Heizer, Robert Smithson y otros earthwork artists y me comenzó a llamar la atención la manera como intervenían el terreno para comunicar sus ideas con un fín que no era necesariamente arquitectónico sino artístico. Otra influencia importante ha sido el brasilero Waltercio Caldas, cuyo trabajo me inspiró para interpretar mis ideas y crear los terrenos sobre papel.

My work talks about my daily exchange between my own peaceful and funny world and the real serious scary one. Fighting not to lose the brightness in my eyes but without becoming an easy-crying woman.
My work is about everything, because every little thing in my world has a correspondence in The World, so I have something to say about it./
Mi trabajo habla sobre la diaria convivencia entre mi mundo interior y el verdadero mundo real, luchando por no perder el brillo en los ojos pero sin convertirme en una mujer de ojos acuosos.
Mi trabajo puede ser acerca de cualquier cosa por que cada pequeño ítem en mi mundo tiene su correspondencia en El Mundo Oficial, así que tengo algo que decir sobre todo.

I think an idea grows inside myself and one day, when it becomes strong enough, it possesses me, and I MUST do this or that, I don’ t understand why but it doesn’t matter cause I flow and enjoy, that moment is one of the most precious encounters with ourselves./
Creo que las ideas crecen dentro y el día que son lo suficientemente fuertes simplemente me poseen, así que debo hacer tal o cual cosa, no entiendo por qué pero no lo cuestiono, fluyo y disfruto, porque el momento de creación es uno de los más preciosos encuentros con uno mismo.

Why do you do it? / ¿Por qué lo haces?
Since I was a child I found that my imagination could build a perfect world for me. Every time the reality became too hard, boring or rare to me I could go to this shelter where I feel safe and happy. At that time I didn’t have any contact with “art”, it was natural for me to create things, drawings, sculptures, collages. When I finished law school and moved to Buenos Aires, I started taking pictures so I used the camera to protect myself but also to see my inside world as if it were really “real”. I believe that a paper mushroom friend is more real than Wall Street./

Desde pequeña aprendí que con mi imaginación podía construir un mundo perfecto para mí, cuando las cosas se ponían difíciles para una niña sensible, (lo cual sucedía a menudo) me iba a este refugio seguro donde era feliz. No sabia lo que era el arte hasta que me mudé aquí, era natural producir cosas, dibujos, cómics, esculturas en plastilina, collages. Cuando terminé de estudiar Derecho vine a Buenos Aires y empecé a sacar fotos, por un lado la cámara me protegía mediatizando mi relación con el afuera pero por el otro me permitía ver mi mundo interior como si fuera verdadero. Un álbum con mi viaje. Para mí es más real un hongo de papel que Wall Street.
